Welcome! Mid Atlantic Cohousing (MAC) is a consortium of built, building or forming cohousing communities from Pennsylvania to North Carolina. Seeking to serve all who live, play or work in cohousing, our borders are permeable enough to include YOUR community!
It's FREE! Seven days February 26-March 4. From the website: Our Mission: to age without the Inner Borders that keep us from living fully, discouraging us from trying new things, and allowing society to dictate what we can and cannot do; and to connect freely - without Outer Borders - with a global community of like minded, curious and engaged peers launching a movement of social change, impact and innovation. More than 50 speakers including Dr. Bill Thomas, Eden Alternative, Dr. Roger Landry, President, Masterpiece Living, Ashton Applewhite, This Chair Rocks.
The free day pass allows you to view all the talks and videos released that day for 24 hours. For an early bird registration fee of $97 you gain access to all the presentations to watch at your leisure, a Guidebook which contains information on all the speakers, free assessments and other benefits.
Meet our newest MAC member community! Located in beautiful Shepherdstown, West Virginia, Shepherd Village is just 90 minutes from Washington, DC and Baltimore, Maryland. Located on 19 wooded acres, it will be a community of 30 households of working adults and retirees. Half of the homes have been pre-sold. The National Geographic (online) has a lovely article by Christina Nunez on how cohousing communities save energy while fostering a greater connection among residents. She focuses on The EcoVillage of Ithaca NY and Belfast EcoVillage in Maine. Takoma Village in Washington, DC gets a nice mention. Right under the headline is an impossibly dramatic "winter spiral" photo taken at the EcoVillage in Ithaca.
Heathcote Community, a 50-year old intentional community and permaculture demonstration farm, is seeking proposals from families or groups who would like to be Associate Members of Heathcote and rent Heathcote’s farmhouse for a year.
Life Edited eNewsletter just ran an extensive article on cohousing featuring Durham Central Park Cohousing! Be sure to subscribe to the Life Edited!

Mid Atlantic Cohousing is deeply involved in teaching the art of living in community. We are committed to the profound work of creating a sustainable society, one neighborhood at a time. In a world that often seems disparate, we take on the challenges of providing space and time that foster connection. To this end we provide direct educational services to our member communities. We also educate and inform the public about cohousing. Each year we provide an array of educational and informational events for member communities as well as those open to the public.
