Conference Keynote Address
Over the last 20 years the Danish concept of cohousing has grown up here in the United States. It has evolved to adapt to the realities of American Culture as well as the changing economic landscape. Over that time, we have learned a tremendous amount about how to work together and how to design, build and organize our homes to improve their energy efficiency and the development of strong relationships among neighbors.
But now more is required if we are to transform our communities to adjust to the demographic and economic tidal waves heading our way. Issues of sustainability and green construction and urban agriculture, renewable energy and walkable communities to be woven together with the social capital so rich in cohousing communities create “Peak Community.” In this opening talk, Zev will take us on a brief history of the cohousing movement and then out into the future. He will address what is now possible by using the skills and knowledge we have gathered over the past 20 years.
What kind of a future can we create, which is both spiritually uplifting, and increasingly sustainable for our environment? Join us for a thought-provoking peek into a next possible step for cohousing and sustainable communities.
