About Us
cohousing community tour

Mid-Atlantic Cohousing (MAC) is a regional resource for individuals seeking cohousing and for existing and developing cohousing communities. MAC serves communities located in Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, Delaware and Pennsylvania and ... sometimes ... North Carolina! MAC collaborates on projects that address common needs of cohousers and soon-to-be cohousers as well as folks just beginning their inquiry into community living.

Mid Atlantic Cohousing is organized for the expressed purpose of educating and informing the public at large and those folks actively engaged in cohousing about the benefits and challenges of forming, building and living in cohousing.

To this end MAC gives presentations, staffs booths at public venues such as the annual Green Festival in Washington, DC, distributes literature, maintains a website and annually schedules a bus tour of several cohousing communities in our region to educate folks new to cohousing.

MAC provides training workshops on issues of concern to people already engaged in cohousing such as governance, mediation, workshare, facilitation, meeting management, facilities management, etc. We also support community building events such as picnics, “Family Days” and other recreational activities that bring together both folks engaged in cohousing and those members of the public at large wanting to learn more about cohousing. Contact us at 703-346-2488 for information about our activities or email us at ann@midatlanticcohousing.org.

About Cohousing

Cohousing offers a return to smaller, safer neighborhoods where people know each other. While each home is self sufficient and has a complete kitchen, resident-cooked dinners are available in the "common house" for those who choose to participate.

First established in Denmark, cohousing has become popular in the USA. Our neighborhoods are designed, planned, and managed with a high degree of resident participation. Residents include a mix of singles, couples, families, and elders. Cohousing projects do not promote any ideology.
