Welcome! Mid Atlantic Cohousing (MAC) is a consortium of built, building or forming cohousing communities from Pennsylvania to North Carolina. Seeking to serve all who live, play or work in cohousing, our borders are permeable enough to include YOUR community!
It's the last Takoma Village Cohousing tour of 2022!
(Sneak in this event before the holiday crush!)
It's cold. Getting dark earlier and earlier these days. Yet … we still want to show off our community while spreading the good word about cohousing. So ... tour Takoma Village Cohousing from the comfort of your home via Zoom.
We will cover all the same information and you will see all of the common spaces we normally cover during an in-person tour — with plenty of time for Q&A.

Emerson Common, established in 2019, is a multigenerational cohousing community located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, 15 minutes to Charlottesville — a small city with plenty of dining, music, cultural and employment opportunities — named America's happiest city by the US National Bureau of Economic Research.
We build relationships through neighborhood self-management, twice-weekly common meals, regular social events, and much front porch hanging out. Members range in age from two to 80, with a balanced distribution of ages and stages of life. Neighbors participate in community work, attending monthly plenary meetings and joining the department circles of their choice.
Within walking distance from our neighborhood is a grocery store, brewery, and restaurants. Crozet has multiple parks with walking trails, playgrounds and lakes.
We currently have 19, mostly attached, homes with room for seven more. Visit emersoncommons.org for more information.
Juniper Hill Cohousing
We're building a multi-generational cohousing neighborhood in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley! Juniper Hill Commons is located in the small city of Harrisonburg, Virginia (population ~ 54,000) nicknamed "The Friendly City". It’s a great place to raise kids, with a dual language public school program available (half day taught in Spanish, half in English), the nationally acclaimed Shenandoah Valley Children’s Choir, and the rockin’ Explore More Children’s museum.
We're an artsy, sustainably-minded, social-justice oriented, garden-growing, fun-loving group of mostly introverts. Even so, we're looking forward to common meals, fire-pit chats, art parties, movie watching, lego building, garden-growing and just chillin' on the front porches together.
We're looking for more kids and adults of all ages to join us as neighbors! Harrisonburg is a family-friendly university town with access to lots of nature- we love it here, and we think you will too! Breaking ground as soon as we have 24 households…
Liberty Village is a group of unique individuals living in an ecological cohousing community near Frederick, Maryland. Our multigenerational community currently includes 22 kids, adults up to age 83, along with free-range chickens and our new addition - baby goats!
Cohousing is the radical idea that a group of people can design a neighborhood from the ground up with a village in mind.
Our privately owned homes are located on 8 acres with a multitude of common areas, parks, and pedestrian-only walkways, plus a Common House which is used for social activities, potlucks, and celebrations. All of this is enveloped by 15 acres of pristine natural meadows, woods, and wetlands to explore.

Mid Atlantic Cohousing is deeply involved in teaching the art of living in community. We are committed to the profound work of creating a sustainable society, one neighborhood at a time. In a world that often seems disparate, we take on the challenges of providing space and time that foster connection. To this end we provide direct educational services to our member communities. We also educate and inform the public about cohousing. Each year we provide an array of educational and informational events for member communities as well as those open to the public.
